Thomas Jackson
I speak to college students with the hope of cultivating a deep appreciation for the importance of continual, lifelong learning.
For most students, college is a very expensive way to experience opinions, beliefs, and values different from their own.
I help students realize that, with this huge investment of money, time, and effort, the best way to maximize the return on investment is to avoid imposing limitations on themselves and their potentials. The whole environment of college is a real-world learning opportunity—I believe students should embrace that and grow, whether away from or closer to the opinions, beliefs, and values they had before. We are all our best selves when we free ourselves to never stop learning.

ABOUT
I was a first-generation college graduate, and I am trained in the biomedical sciences and public health.
I live in Maryland now, but I have lived in three very different regions of the U.S., and I have gained a greater appreciation both for the many differences of opinions and cultures we have and for the things we all have in common.
It is easy for some to say that college should be the best time of our lives, but it is a bit harder to open ourselves up and get the greatest possible benefits out of the experience as a whole. I believe there is just as much to learn from the people and places around us as there is from textbooks and assigned readings – perhaps even more.
I enjoy helping others appreciate this reality, in much the same way that I enjoy living it myself. I am a cat person, though I am a lover of all animals, and I am passionate about education, health, and community engagement.

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF COLLEGE
Invest in Yourself for a Lifetime of Learning
College students have much to offer and to learn, yet it is sometimes difficult to free the mind enough to get the most value out of this huge investment. Learning should be a lifelong pursuit, and it can be when small changes are made to our perceptions of the environments around us. Simple adjustments in our learning approaches can profoundly affect our achievements and the wealth of knowledge we can acquire.
This one-hour talk will help college students look at learning differently and develop greater respect for themselves and the boundless opportunities around them to learn and grow.

Shelby Warren,

"Having seen Thomas speak publicly on more than one occasion, I attest that his energy and message last long after he sets down his microphone. My most memorable time hearing Thomas speak was at a New York City rally where he addressed rising pharmaceutical costs to hundreds of onlookers. He easily captured the attention of all by delivering a powerful, concise speech that told a relatable story while creating a shared feeling of purpose and action in the audience."
Amon Amini,
DO
"Thomas is a great speaker because he shows that he understands both what he knows and what he doesn't know. He has a natural ability to articulate things, but he is also well-versed in the things he discusses. Thomas also really connects with his audience by keeping things sharp and to the point, all while keeping a great sense of humor."
